Sketches from the Dream - Art, Image, Color and the Dream
All of the art work on this site come from "sketches" or drawings I do in relationship to my dreams, unless otherwise noted.
When I first began working with my dreams in 1997, I had a dream where, in part, I was led down into a cave. At the bottom of the cave were a number of people painting.
I do not consider myself an artist; the dream invited me, however, to begin to express myself creatively in a medium outside my comfort zone - outside the realm of the written word, where I do have some comfort.
I did a little work back then, but it was not until a few years ago, working with Karla Van Vliet leading an class on art and the dream that the "sketches" really began.
Each "sketch" comes directly from an image or a feeling in a dream. Some of the images are abstract, just color and simple shapes. Some are more literal.
For me, doing the drawings has been incredible in deepening my work with my dreams through the experience, often uncomfortable, of putting color to paper.
This gallery contains some of the images I have done over the years.
One of the images that seems to emerge when I put color onto the page is the image of the mandorla. It is an interesting image for it carries the energy of portal and of the tenderness of the feminine.
The mandorla also carries the energy of other things, such as the wound we all carry. How to enter into the portal of the wound is to enter into the process of healing.
